Q: Will my unused vacation days carry over to the following year?

Q: As a new employee, will my vacation days be prorated?

Yes. The number of vacation days will be adjusted based on your start date. Sick days and public holidays will not be affected.

Q: If I leave the company, will I be compensated for unused days?

A: Yes. You will receive a check compensating you for any unused personal days. Sick days and holidays will not be reimbursed. Personal days that are carried over from the previous years are not reimbursed.

🌴 Time off policy

Steps to book holiday: - Request time off on Deel to be approved by your manager - Set your OOO and slack emoji to 🌴 - Team calendar is here / Events calendar is here

Timeframes for requesting holiday

  • Holidays 1 week or longer need to be requested with at least 3 weeks notice.

  • Holidays of a day or two should be requested at least 3 days in advance unless it’s an emergency/unforeseen circumstance.

  • Holidays for longer than a total of 3 days should not be taken during probation unless pre-approved prior to joining.

  • Exemptions will be at the discretion of your manager.

When to use your vacation days

  • We work flexibly at Junction meaning we work remotely and employees can adjust their start and end times, as long as you complete your required tasks or hours. We work across GMT and EDT timezones so expect at least 3 hours crossover with your day.

  • If you're going to be out of action for a chunk of the day - please consider booking off half a day vs trying to fit in those hours out of your usual hours.

What to do when you're on holiday

  • Set your slack emoji and an OOO on your email depending on your role so everyone is aware

  • Please write a holiday handover to make sure everyone on the team has the context they need whilst you're away, so you can switch off

πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ Public holidays

For the US team and our customers

The US team follows these 11 federal holiday days. We have a reminder set up on the #general channel so you have a heads up 7 days before!

  • New Year’s Day January 1

  • Martin Luther King’s Birthday 3rd Monday in January

  • Washington’s Birthday 3rd Monday in February

  • Memorial Day last Monday in May

  • Juneteenth National Independence Day June 19

  • Independence Day July 4

  • Labor Day 1st Monday in September

  • Columbus Day 2nd Monday in October

  • Veterans’ Day November 11

  • Thanksgiving Day 4th Thursday in November

  • Christmas Day December 25

For anyone not following US holidays, in another country

  • Use Deel to book your 'public holidays' so everyone has visibility ahead of you being out

We care about your physical and mental health! Pushing yourself to work when you're sick is neither fun nor useful - you'll recover quicker if you focus your energy on taking care of yourself.

What to do If you are not well enough to work:

  • let your manager know by 10am (by slack, email, text)

  • ask them to rearrange any external meetings

  • put your sick day on Deel or ask your manager if you're too unwell

  • update your Slack status to πŸ€’ and snooze notifications for the day set your email out-of-office (if you use this regularly) focus on feeling better!

If you're still too sick to work the next day, same as above, plus letting them know if there's anything that needs to be covered while you're away. If you think you're going to need a few days out to recover, please flag that as early as possible so that we can be better prepared to keep things running smoothly in your absence (one less thing for you to worry about). If you're not feeling πŸ’― but you're sure that you are well enough to work productively:

  • try to take it easy

  • focus on the things that absolutely have to happen that day

  • stop if you feel worse!

  • stay hydrated, take naps, look after yourself

Health is the most important thing!

Off sick for longer periods If you are sick for more than 7 days consecutively, your manager will ask for a doctors note to make sure we understand how to support you through this period and we will put an individual plan together to support your recovery.
